Every Wednesday, entertainment reaches new heights at the Budaya Cultural Theatre. The hotel presents the Legong Dance performance on Wednesdays* in this Balinese amphitheatre while a dinner is served. The authentic Balinese buffet dinner includes the famous Babi Guling (suckling pig).

The history of Legong Dance

First Dance: Panyembrama
Panyembrama is an adaptation of dances performed at temple ceremonies, during which offerings are made. Four girls carry a bowl of flowers to the audience as a welcome gesture.

Second Dance: Baris Dance
The word “Baris” means “a line of troops” and the Baris dance depicts warriors preparing to confront the enemy. The dancers come to the stage with spears, swords or shields – depending on the type of Baris dance being performed. The powerful boom of the kebyar and gede gongs keeps the rhythm as the dancers’ movements intensify. This dance is performed to welcome the Gods and ancestors to the earth.

Third Dance: Cendrawasih Dance
This dance depicts the lust of the birds of paradise in the mountains of Irian Jaya. It is comprised of the basic movements and dance traditions of Bali, although some movements have been developed with modern interpretations.

Fourth Dance: Legong Kraton Dance
This is a complex, classical dance from Bali, which is bound by the rhythm of the percussion accompaniment. The word Legong is comprised of “leg” which means the motion of fluid dance and “gong” meaning gamelan (a traditional Indonesian instrument), implying that this dance is a combination of movements based around the accompanying percussion.
