British supermodel, businesswoman and ambassador, Naomi Campbell has come under fire by South Africans after her strong message to former President Jacob Zuma.

Naomi took to Instagram to weigh in on the recent incidents of looting and protests under the #FreeZuma banner. Disabling comments on the post after South Africans called her out for making comparisons between the late Nelson Mandela and Jacob Zuma.

The model’s relationship with Nelson Mandela, who called her his “honorary granddaughter,” left an indelible mark on her. In the years since their first meeting in 1994, Campbell became an ambassador for the continent, crusading against poverty while using her influence to spotlight its young designers.

Taking to Instagram on Friday 30 July, Naomi posted her strong message to Zuma, advising him to act and take responsibility as a leader would.

“This isn’t the South Africa I remember and that millions of South African’s fought for. The South Africa that overcame Apartheid, showed the world that change was possible. Led the battle in the fight against HIV/AIDS and has weathered countless efforts to undermine the new South Africa.” – Naomi Campbell on Instagram

“Agree to finish your appearance in front of the State Capture Commission and equally you will have your days in court to contest the corruption charges alleged against you. Put the nation first. PEACE IN SOUTHAFRICA!” she wrote.
