Last week’s Powerball winner has dreams for a seaside holiday and the perfect home. The unemployed North West mom came forward to claim her prize, making her the second-highest Powerball winner in the history of the South African lottery.

Spending just R15 on her winning ticket which she purchased via the Absa banking app, the ecstatic mom selected the numbers manually.

“I’m still in disbelief, overwhelmed yet very excited. The money could not have come at a better time for my family as I lost my job last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” she told iThuba.

The winner has been playing the numbers 5, 12, 15, 28, 29, and PowerBall number 14 across Powerball and Lotto games for a while.

Having never been to Durban, the winner wants to take her family to the seaside for a much-needed holiday and will be putting a portion of the winnings into building and furnishing her dream home.

Missing the live draw, the winner checked the results on her banking app and was in disbelief for a while.

She said the rest of her winnings would be placed in an education trust for children and a portion would be donated to charity.

Ithuba chief executive Charmaine Mabuza said the winner received financial advice and trauma counselling from Ithuba.
